*We strongly endorse the manufacturer’s recommendation to add a topping or tread layer to the grids for animal traffic - this is especially important for young horses, shod horses, and any other animals. For general use and especially for shod horses with all season stabling, the manufacturer recommends a final 2"-4" layer of riding sand or fine sand with 2% clay. Gravel dust can be used as well. The tread layer should be lightly compacted before use and topped each year to keep surfaces in top condition.
